Director of “The Blackbird”:

Heavy Risk, Difficult & Sweet Experience

Samaneh Zandinejad, director of “The Blackbird”, talked about her new piece in the City Theater and contradictory reaction of audience to it in recent days.

Samaneh Zandinejad, whose “The Blackbird” is being performed in Sayeh Hall of the City Theater, said that the audience members had contradictory reactions to the piece. Some spectators could not connect to “The Blackbird” at all while other audience members found it an amazing experience, she said, according to irantheater.ir.

The director said that these contradictions made the direction of the piece more pleasant for her, hoping that the pleasure would stay with her until the very closing days of the performance.

Ms Zandinejad said that “The Blackbird” was a very good experience for her as she had never directed such a piece so far. “The design and direction of the piece were the most different performance I have ever had so far.”

The director explained that today’s theatregoers were way different from those of previous years as they seek more excitements such as seeing cinema and stage superstars on stage compared to the past.

She said that it would be a major risk for a director to stage a play, which did not have such elements. This fact, Ms Zandinejad added, was a heavy risk, which could be both a sweet and difficult experience.

Ms Zandinejad said that she and her troupe tried to picture “The Blackbird” in a way that the audience could connect to it and give them a different experience to the audience.
