“ICELAND”, written by Nicolas Billon, is about immigration and its cultural impacts on people lives. It is about those who immigrate to reach Utopia in a foreign land but get disappointed and enter into the limbo. Fahimeh Amanzadeh acts strongly in a difficult and internal role in “ICELAND”.

It is the first time the piece is being staged in Iran. “ICELAND” is translated by Zahra Javaheri and directed by Aida Keykhaii.
Its production director is Mohammad Qods, brochure and poster designer Amir Esmi, assistant director and planner Elham Khodaverdi. Maral Dusti is public relations. Fahimeh Amanzadeh talks more about her character in “ICELAND” as Ana Gawadin. Azadeh Samadi, Fahimeh Amanzadeh and Ehsan Karami play in “ICELAND”.
You have played numerous extrovert and emotional characters in plays, written by foreign playwrights, in recent years. It seems playing Ana in “ICELAND”, which is an introvert and sophisticated character, is a different experience in your acting career.
Anna Gawadin in “ICELAND” is one of the most difficult characters I have ever played in years. I received accolades for playing the role and so many told me that they have not recognized me at all. It is amazing for me to be able to act in such a different character. I have played in various roles over the past two decades.
Haven’t you play another silent and introvert character in “Dar Shourehzar”?
Yes. It is correct. It was a quiet and introvert character. Anna gives the actress a chance to present her talents. Her character is multi-layered and sophisticated. The director also envisaged a set in which actors are static and still. I had no physical acting, which made the role more difficult. Acting of the three actors were limited to their faces.
This stillness made you not to express any emotion in your face. Haven’t you had a chance to express feelings like the other two actors?
It is an important point. The role was a major and serious challenge to me. I tell Aida Keykhaii every day that Anna is driving me insane. She influences all aspects of my being.
Are you trying to illuminate ambiguity surrounding the character every day?
That’s right! But I cannot add anything new to the role. I reached the feature of that woman during my rehearsals.
Do you think Anna is a psychopath?
Yes. But I should not reveal that part of her character explicitly. The audience must face it gradually and in an elegant way.
