Funeral of Rokneddin Khosrawi from Vahdat Hall

Funeral of Rokneddin Khosrawi, instructor, author, actor and stage director, who passed away in London last week, will be held from Vahdat Hall of Tehran on Thursday, 9 am.

Mr Khosrawi, who died of old age in London, last week, will be buried in Beheshte Zahra Cemetery, irantheater.ir reported.

Elham Pavehnejad, Iraj Rad, Jamal Mirsadeghi and Akbar Zanjanpour will talk about the dead artist.

Asghar Hemmat, managing director of Theater Forum, told Iran Theater last week that the burial in Tehran’s Beheshte Zahra Cementry was a demand of the country’s theater community and his family.

Mr Khosrawi was one of the most influential figures in Iran contemporary theater as he trained many students and directed lots of pieces, which would be etched in the theater history of Iran.

He was graduated from Alborz High School in 1949. He was admitted in law faculty of the Tehran University the next year, leaving his education unfinished in 1951. Mr Khosrawi started educating Persian literature at Tehran University.

Dr Khosrawi staged pieces such as “Valley Shadow”, “Silence of Sea”, “Picnic in War Front”, “Endgame”, “Behind Windows”, “Hello & Goodbye” and “Joan of Arc” before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

He directed “Sizwe Bansi Is Dead” by Harold Athol Lanigan Fugard after the revolution in which Akbar Zanjanpour played an acclaimed role.

Mr Khosrawi immigrated to London in 1981. He taught at Arak Azad University for a short time.
