Tribute to Dr Ali Rafie

Dr Ali Rafie, veteran stage director, will be paid tribute in Vahdat Hall on the closing ceremony of the 35th Fadjr International Theater Festival on January 31 for his life achievement.

Born in 1938 in Isfahan, Ali Rafie educated in physical education in France where he got interested in theater. He educated in both sociology and theater fields in France. Mr Rafiee holds a masters’ degree in sociology and a PhD in theater from SorbonneUniversity.    

He started stage direction and acting in France. In early 1970s, he returned to Iran to be dean of Dramatic Arts Faculty while teaching theater at the Fine Arts Faculty of Tehran University.

Ali Rafie directed plays such as “Antigone”, “Shivan va Esteghase Paye Divare Boland Shahr”, “Khaterat va Kabous haye Yek Jamedan az Ghatle Amir Kabir”, Crime and Punishment”, “Memory of Sand Years (Yadegare Salhaye Shen”, “Yek Rooze Khatere Angiz baraye Daneshmand Voo”, “Blood Wedding”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “Shazde Ehtejab”, “The Maids”, “Never Snows in Egypt”, “Fox Hunting” and Kitchen”.

In addition to fruitful career in theater, Mr Rafie directed two movies “The Fish Fall in Love” and “Agha Yousef”. 

Dr Ali Rafie has cooperated with noted artists and introduced new talents during his career including Reza Kianian, Golab Adineh, Siamak Safari, Hassan Majouni, Soheila Razavi, Roya Taymourian, Shabnam Toloei, Maryam Saadat, Mehdrdad Ziaei, Houman Barghnavard and Setareh Eskandari.

Paying due attention to lighting and set design are among characteristics of his works.

Mr Rafie is busy staging a new piece these days.
