Theater Artists Attend a Funeral

Farewell to Parviz Bashardouste

Parviz Bashardouste, stage actor, author and director, was laid to rest in Tehran’s Beheshte Zahra Cemetery on March 22 from Vahdat Hall.

Asghar Hemmat, managing director of Iran Theatre Forum, Ali-Asghar Shahali, managing director of Vahdat Hall, artists such as Dr Qotbeddin Sadeghi, Parviz Pourhosseini, Khosrow Ahmadi, Masoud Forotan, Hamidreza Naimi and Saman Khalilian attended the funeral, irantheater.ir reported.

Asghar Hemmat said that sudden death of Mr Bashardouste made the forum not to be able to hold a funeral he deserved. The country was celebrating the Persian New Year, which began on March 21.

He said that Mr Bashardouste started his career at the age of 16 and had been a prolific theatre actor in 1970s. Mr Bashardouste loved theatre and his “Wish Orchard” by him was the sign of his love for theatre, he added.

Managing director of the forum said that Mr Bashardouste had not received the tribute he deserved when he was alive but the actor remained hopeful of the art, talking about his new ideas and plans despite being fed up with this disregard.

Mr Bashardouste started his career with “Wish Orchard” in 1960s as his first show, Mr Hemmat explained, regretting that the art community lost many souls in the last Persian year.

The ceremony followed by short speeches by Dr Qotbeddin Sadeghi,  Hafez Mohammadi and Ali Asghar Shahali.

In the end, daughter of Mr Bashardouste thanked all who attended his funeral.

Born in Tabriz, Mr Bashardouste died at the age of 66 years old on Sunday. He started his stage career in 1967 with writing plays. His latest presence in stage was in 1987 when he had rewritten “Wish Orchard” and played in the piece.

His memorial service will take place in Nur Mosque in Fatemi Square in Tehran at 11:00-12:30.
