Isfahan Residents Welcome Plays Above Expectation

Houshang Jamshidian, head of Isfahan Society of Performing Arts, said that art camps, commemoration of veteran artists and holding educational courses would be on the agenda this year.

Theater had a long history in the central province of Isfahan and the city was home to a one of the oldest performing art venues in Iran, irantheater.ir reported..

It is a city in which "Isfahan School of Comedy Theater" was founded by Reza Arham Sadr, Naser Farahmand, Nasrollah Vahdat. Many audiences travelled from other cities and even the capital to see these comedies in Isfahan until recently.

Although Isfahan Theater is distanced from its peak years over the recent two-three decades, its artists are still among the most prolific ones.

Irantheater.ir talked to Houshang Jamshidian, head of Isfahan Society of Performing Arts, on the occasion of theater celebration of the World Theater.

Mr Jamshidian said that renovation of Sa'adi, Imam and Welfare Department halls was over in Isfahan and they were ready for performance now.

Plays, which had been performed in Isfahan last week, were welcomed above expectation, he said, adding that new performances and educational courses for registered and new theater groups were planned for this year.   

In addition, basic educational courses would be offered to families to get familiar with the art of theater and theater therapy, Mr Jamshdian.

He stressed that the society had managed to fully plan its last year plan. "Fortunately, last year it was a good year with performance of over 135 plays in the city and they were welcomed by spectators above expectation."  

Mr Jamshidian said that the plays, which were welcomed enthusiastically, had been sent to other cities for performance, adding that theater by the physically impaired artists was received well by spectators.
