Atash Taqipour is among veteran Iranian actors of theater and television with a career of more than five decades. His accomplished acting in “Dreams of 10th of Ordibehesht” made the character of the father of martyr Vezvaei touchable.
Taqipour has worked with renowned directors such as Bahram Beyzai, Mohammad Ali Najafi, Iraj Tahmasb and Hassan Fathi.
“Dreams of 10th of Ordibehesht” is being performed in the Art Center of the Islamic Propagation Organization after its success in Vahdat Hall show.
Atash Taqipour talks about his role as father of martyr Vezvaei in the play.
You have started your acting career in 1960s with a university degree. How much are you satisfied with the job you did?
No one is happy with his professional career completely. Man is perfectionist and loves to reach his ideals. I am not an exception. I have been tried to do my new acting roles better than the previous ones. An actor must try to improve.
You have cooperated with renowned figures such as late Dr Rokneddin Khosrawi. What do you feel about working with young directors such as Milad Jabbari in “Dreams of 10th of Ordibehesht”?
Each director has his/her special characteristics. Acting in theater used to be a very organized task coupled with sufficient rehearsals. I see the task less organized in recent years and actors rule the stage and directors must beg them to be present in rehearsals. Young actors of today’s theater play in four or five plays simultaneously, which is not correct and rob them of concentration on their acting.
On the other hand, the support of the state-run section of theater can help young talents tap their potentials by its support. Joining of independent, which is a new phenomenon, may lead to lower the artistic aspect of the plays to attract more audience.
Did you know the method of direction of Milad Jabbari before the play?
No. I did not know him. I know him now and we are working with each other like close friends. We reached common points during the work.
What do you think about the role of Nader Borhani-Marand as dramaturge and how he could present a true picture of life of martyr Vezvaei?
I liked Nader Borhani-Marand to be present in rehearsals and help improve the play. I raised the issue on the first day but the answer was that he was on a trip. It seems theater groups are reluctant to use experiences of playwrights during their rehearsals.
Did you have extra study to play the role of the father of martyr Vezvaei?
I started with studying the relationships of martyr Vezvaei with his family and relatives and knew how different his character was. He was educated and smart and had high talent in learning military sciences. He had managed to make Iranian troops victorious in some operations like Bazideraz despite having few troops.
You have played the role of fathers a lot. What was different in playing the role of father of a martyr?
I tried to present a touchable and believable picture of the father of a middle-class family in 1980s. I would like to show more aspects of his characters but the duration of play was limited and I could not do it. I did my best with high respect for martyrs and their families.
