Mohsen Hosseini to Iran Theater:
I May Ignore Performance!
Mohsen Hosseini, veteran actor and director, studied in Germany. He has divided his time between acting and directing over the past decades. His theater is based on dream, movement and performance. He performed "Western-Eastern Divan" last year.
Mohsen Hosseini told Iran Theater that he wanted to perform "Forough Sarapina", which is written by him, in Iranshahr Theater Complex late summer.
"I have written myself. It took 14 months to write it. In fact, it is a sequence of "Western-Eastern Divan". The play has nine powerful and renowned woman artists such as Forough Farrokhzad, Frida Kahlo, Maria Callas, Sarah Kane and …," he explained. "They influenced literature, art, poetry, singing and play writing and they were avant-garde and pioneer."
Mr Hosseini added that the play would be on movement and performance and chorus would have a bold role in it in addition to multimedia and opera.
On his choice of actors, he said that he would choose those who have strong expression and would be able to do movement.
Hamid Jogar, Niloufar Morvaridmehr, Elnaz Tarikhi, Fatemeh Saremi, Lida Fathollahi, Sepideh Seifouri, Aram Khalkhali, Leili Joneidi, Marjan Sadeghi and Roja Jafarian will play in the show. Elaheh Baradaran will be assistant director and Mr Hosseini will do the lighting and costume design. Mohammad Reza Jadidi will compose music. Shirin Qayoumi will help Mr Hosseini in sewing the costume.
Mr Hossein said that the rehearsal would start in a month but the group did not have budget for their project.
On why he could not use Iranshahr Theater Complex for rehearsals, he claimed that the hall would be allocated to those who have links. "Despite being in line of performance, Iranshahr Theater Complex does not give me a place for rehearsal…As an independent artist, I have been deprived of budget and facilities."
He regretted that he might ignore performance if he could not find any financial support.
