Layat al-Qadr (night of decree or night of power, or night of value or night of destiny) is the night when the first verses of Quran was revealed to prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Muslims believe the blessings of God are abundant on the nights and sins are forgiven.
Shia Muslims believe that Laylat al-Qadr is on the 19th, 21st or 23rd of Ramadan with 23rd being the most important night. The 19th coincides with the night of attack against Imam Ali (AS) while he was worshipping in the Kufa Mosque. Imam Ali was martyred on the 21st of Ramadan. Shia Muslims worship and regard these three nights as greatly rewarding.
