Akbar Radi Festival in Gilan in the Offing

Vahid Mahboub-Bashari, head of Gilan Theater Association, told Iran Theater that a festival to pay tribute to noted playwright Akbar Radi as well as training workshops were among the most important plans of the body in the northern province this year.

He said that shortage of proper theater venues had been the most important concern of Gilan theater, adding that the only working theater space of the province was Khatam.

Mr Mahboub-Bashari hoped that Sardare Jangal Complex would open this year to help more performances in the province.

He added that new workshops on educating those interested on new methods of street theater and puppet shows would be on the agenda of the association. Educational classes would be held in the center of the province Rasht and other cities of Gilan to help encourage people to see play.

Mr Mahboub-Bashari said that the routine programs such as provincial festival and citizen street festival would be held as the past.

A statue of Akbar Radi was installed om Municipality Square of Rasht, Mahboub-Bashari said, adding that given that a festival would be devoted to late Radi, who had been one of the greatest playwrights of Iran and was from the province.
