An Interview with Nasim Adabi, Actress & Instructor about Acting Courses
No one Can Act with Theory

Iran Theater: Nasim Adabi is one of the actresses faithful to theater despite her screen experiences.
Ms Adabi is a prolific accomplished actress. She had a successful presence last month at the 70th annual Cannes Film Festival in France with the film “Lerd” (A Man of Integrity).
She has a successful record of working with big theater names such as Pari Sabei in “Antigone”, Sohran Salimi “Lovequake”, Farhad Mohanespour “The Day of Judgment”, Behrouz Gahribpour “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”, Mehrdad Rayani-Makhsous “Major Barbara” and “Ayoub Aqakhani “In South”.
Ms Adabi has been teaching acting in institute run by Masoud Kimiaei, Amin Tarokh and Amir Dejakam for years. She talks more about acting courses.
You have started a busy year with lots of travel. How come have you decided to teach acting?
This is my second time, which I have decided to teaching acting in educational workshops. Apart from teaching techniques, I focus on their emotions. The students are in different beginning to advanced levels. I work on the basics of acting with them. The advantage of working with beginners is that the teacher can shape their mind.
When an actor can be successful that he/she can mix techniques with emotion, is that true?
Of course! Neither technique nor emotion can bring success. I try to teach them how to use their different emotions and picture different aspects of a character. In addition, I teach them how to personify a character. They have to review for instance what the character and behavior of a nurse can be. In what sort of family she has grown up or is she brave or coward and etc. My final exam is also performing a monologue by students.
Do you provide them examples of your acting only or your colleagues’ acting?
Yes. I refer to the acting by my colleagues too. One of my homework is to see plays and come to class and interpret the acting they have seen.
Does it mean your class is more practices rather than theory?
I suggest them to study some books. But I do not believe in giving the students notes in classes. Acting is practice and rehearsal. No one can be an accomplished actor or actress with theory.
