Golab Adineh to Play Black of “Lions of Khan Babasaltaneh”

Golab Adineh, renowned theater and cinema actress, will play in “Lions of Khan Babasaltaneh”, which is written and directed by Afshin Hashemi.

Golab Adineh in Afshin Hashemi’s “Lions of Khan Babasaltaneh” will for the first time in her career play the role of Siah, a blackface, mischievous and forthright harlequin in Iranian folk performing art who does improvisation to stir laughter.

Her role will portray different types of Iran’s folk performing art including Ta’zieh (passion play), Iran Theater reported.

Ms Adineh played in cinema as Siah in Bahram Beyzaei’s “The King Snake” about two decades ago. But this is her first role as Siah on stage.

The last play directed by Afshin Hashemi was four years ago. His “Lions of Khan Babasaltaneh”, which was published in 2012, will be performed in August and September at Shahrzad Theater Complex.

“Lions of Khan Babasaltaneh” tells the story of Qajar King Naser al-Din Shah (1831-1896) when he decided to build the country’s first zoo in Tehran and keep wild animals there.
