Director General of Dramatic Arts Center Closes 12th Marivan International Street Theater Festival

Responsible People Highlight Marivan Theater

The 12th Marivan International Street Theater Festival closed on Wednesday, September 13, awarding the winners.

Mahdi Shafiee, director general of Dramatic Arts Center, said at the closing ceremony of the festival that responsible people of Marivan highlight its theater.

He explained that the people of the city welcomed the performances and criticism sessions enthusiastically, which played an effective role in creating joy and dynamism, Iran Theater reported.

The foreign troupes from Brazil, Spain, France, Ukraine, Azerbaijan Republic and Iraq took part in the festival, which was valuable for Marivan street theater, the official said, adding that the opening carnival was outstanding.

Mr Shafiee said that hosting the festival in the city bordering Iraq showed that Marivan is safe and officials trust people and artists.

He added that handing over the responsibility of the festival in all sections to Marivan this year helped improved its quality.

Mr Shafiee thanked Fateh Badparva, secretary of the festival, for its efficient management of the festival as the number of foreign troupes taking part in the festival increased.

Mr Badparva gave a briefing of the festival, saying that the event gave a chance to Marivan to be introduced to the world, developing its tourism industry.

The ceremony closed after the winners received their awards, paying tribute to Shahram Karami, Namegh Khaodayar and Faramarz Qelichkhani for their fruitful career in the street theater field.

Shahram Karami said that he had tried throughout his career to commemorate those who played effective roles in theater in Iran. "I had never thought to be commemorated. I did nothing for theater. I am happy that this commemoration is taking place in my hometown," he said.

Namegh Khodayar honored Qotbeddin Sadeghi, a jury member of the festival, with a cane made by him. Faramarz Ghelichkhani also staged a stand-up comedy on Marivan festival and street theater.
