Shahla Riahi was a pioneer of performing arts in Iran

Iran Theater-The funeral of Shahla Riahi was attended by a group of cinema and theater artists this Sunday morning at Vahdat Hall.

Iran Theater- Actress Shahla Riahi, who presented herself as Iran’s first female director in 1957 by making “Marjan”, died of Alzheimer’s in Tehran on Tuesday. She was 93.

The funeral of Shahla Riahi was attended by a group of cinema and theater artists this Sunday morning at Vahdat Hall.

The event was attended by cinema, theater and television artists such as Poori Banai, Mohammad Motevaselani, Iraj Rad, Fatemeh Motamed Aria, Manouchehr Shahsavari, Ezzatollah Ramezaniifar and Mehdi Miami.

Kamran Maleki ,Public Relations  of Khaneh Cinema at the beginning of the ceremony said: Iranian cinema is alive after a decade because its founders have been blessed . We bid farewell to one of these people today and we know that the sweet memory of her works will always remain with us.  As long as Iranian art is alive, he is one of our great memories.”

Born in Tehran, she started stage acting at an early age in 1944, when she was seventeen. Her husband, Esmaeil Riahi, a stage director and screenwriter.

Her brilliant performance as the leading actress in director Moezzeddivan Fekri’s play “Harun al-Rashid’s Policy” presented her as a young, promising talent.

By playing a leading role in Fekri’s movie “Golden Dreams” in 1952, she was introduced to Iran’s cinema.

After working with numerous stage and screen directors, she tried her hand at filmmaking with “Marjan”.

Riahi played roles in over 70 movies, including “Delshodegan” by Ali Hatami and “Two Movies with One Ticket” Dariush Farhang.

She also played roles in several TV series and children’s TV series.

Riahi made a cameo appearance in 2017 in director Saman Moqaddam’s comedy “Sperm Whale: Roya’s Selection”, which was her swansong.
