“Puppa” will go on stage
Iran Theater-Mehdi Shahpiri’s “Puppa” will go on stage at The 17th Tehran-Mobarak International Puppet Festival.
Iran Theater-Mehdi Shah piri’s “Puppa” will go on stage at The 17th Tehran-Mobarak International Puppet Festival. Puppa, loosely based on Euripides’s Medea, will place the viewer in an archaeological position.
The story is about a childless king. One night a bee sounds in the king's ears and tells the secret to become father.
After a few months, Queen gives birth to twin children: Red hair girl and dead boy. The king is grieved because of the dead son. Again, the bee sound will resonate in his ear , if only the girl's throat is cut off, the boy will be alive. The king cut the girl's throat. A red flower grows from her blood. Some Years later, one day a sailor comes to the beach and sees the flower.
The director, who is interested in One Thousand and One Nights and Demon and fairy’s atmosphere, In the rewrite and adaptation of "Madea", he changed the Greek mythological form and used the magic.
The director explains: The technique is a modern and the use of puppets in the traditional and classical style is not applicable. But in some parts that we have dolls, the Batomy technique has been used. The play has no dialogues.The performance has narration and our approach is visualized.
Mehrnoush Balameh has designed and made puppet. Also did costume designer.
Tehran-Mobarak International Puppet Festival will take place on August 23rd - 29th, 2018.
