Shahram Karami: Show is not just about performing a play

Iran Theater- Shahram Karami wrote the play "Vanush and the Mountains" for the children, which is performing in these nights. He says that children's theater has developed and is not limited to performances.

The play "Vahnous and the Mountains," written by Shahram Karami and directed by Mehdi Ghale, has been performed since April 14 at the Bostan Hall of Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults.

Regarding the thought and idea that led to the writing of this play, Shahram Karami said: "Writing a work has its roots in various sources. The writer's mind, like a strong memory, draws inspiration from the environment, personal experiences, and works of art. Sometimes a word or sentence, a story, or a real or imaginary incident, creates a spark in writer’s mind that gradually takes root and sprouts like a large bush and then blooms. Usually, the root of this spark is not very obvious unless we have directly used a source; for example, a character or story that attracts us and we decide to turn it into a work of art.”

He went on to say: "In writing the play, my most important source of inspiration was the old story of "Wolfgang and Sheena," which is about the peace and friendship of a wolf and a sheep. They live together in a meadow, and their story has a theme of peace and friendship. It is interesting that, contrary to popular belief and old stories, this traditional tale of the wolf and the sheep has been reimagined in a different way, and the children have welcomed this perspective."

The artist added: "The story of the play is not like the usual stories and tales in which a mean wolf faces a mischievous sheep. The story is told in a kind of anti-cliché manner to convey the concept of peace and friendship. It is a story about the friendship of a wolf and a sheep who want to be friends. I wrote the play "The Wolf Comes and Takes You" in 2010 and it was published in 2012 by Kanoon. The characters' names are Vanush and Kohestan, and Mr. Mehdi Qale suggested during the rehearsals of the play that the title be changed, and I did not show any sensitivity to the title of the work and I thought that the names of character and people could also be a suitable title for the play."

He added: "The function of performing arts for children has expanded in all areas of life and what this group of audience deals with. The art of theater is not limited to performing a play. In school, books, games, and entertainment, performing arts are used in various forms."ش
